Install Instructions UPPER INTAKE MANIFOLD: 1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. 2. Remove the air cleaner intake duct. 3. Remove the wiring harness connectors and brackets and move them aside. 4. Disconnect the throttle linkage and bracket from the upper intake manifold. 5. Remove the cruise control cable (if equipped). 6. Remove the PCV valve and hose. 7. Remove the fuel lines and bracket from the intake to the rear of the block. 8. Remove the ignition coil and bracket. 9. Remove the purge solenoid and bracket. Note the location of the manifold bolts and studs before removal for reassembly in their original positions. 1. Remove the intake manifold bolts and studs. Do not disassemble the CSFI unit. 1. Remove the upper intake manifold. To install: 1. Install the upper intake manifold gasket. 2. Install the upper intake manifold. When installing the upper intake manifold be careful not to pinch the injector wires between the upper and lower intake manifolds. 1. Install the upper intake manifold mounting bolts and studs in the same locations as prior to removal. 2. Tighten the bolts and studs in a crisscross pattern in 2 steps first to 45 inch lbs. (5 Nm) then to 83 inch lbs. (10 Nm). 3. Install the purge solenoid and bracket. 4. Install the ignition coil and bracket. 5. Attach the PCV hose to the upper intake manifold. 6. Attach the fuel lines and bracket at the rear of the block. 7. Install the cruise control cable (if equipped). 8. Install the throttle linkage and bracket to the upper intake manifold. 9. Install the throttle linkage cable. 10. Install the wiring harness connectors and brackets. 11. Install the air cleaner intake duct. 12. Connect the negative battery cable. 13. Start the vehicle and verify no leaks. SPIDER ASSEMBLY: 1. Unplug the electrical connector from the fuel meter body. 2. Disconnect the fuel feed and return lines from the engine fuel pipes. 3. Remove the upper manifold assembly. When disconnecting the poppet nozzles, tag the nozzles sequence in order of removal to ensure the attached in their original positions during installation. 1. Squeeze the poppet nozzle locking tabs together while lifting the nozzle out of the casting socket. 2. Remove the fuel meter body attaching bolts. 3. Release the lock tabs on the fuel meter body bracket and remove the fuel meter body assembly. Fig. Fig. 1: Release the lock tabs on the fuel meter body bracket and remove the fuel meter body assembly-CSFI systems To install: 1. Place the fuel meter body into position and install its retaining bolts. Tighten the bolts to 88 inch lbs. (10 Nm). WARNING In order to reduce the risk of fire and personal injury, make sure the poppet nozzles are firmly seated and locked in their casting sockets. An unlocked poppet nozzle could work loose from its socket resulting in a fuel leak. 1. Attach the fuel meter body bracket lock tabs making sure they firmly lock in place. 2. Push the poppet nozzles into the casting sockets in the order that they were removed. Make sure the nozzles are firmly locked in place. 3. Install the upper manifold electrical connection. 4. Install new O-rings on the fuel feed and return lines. 5. Attach the fuel feed and return lines to the engine fuel pipes. Tighten the fuel pipe nuts to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm). 6. Connect the negative battery cable. 7. Turn the ignition ON for 2 seconds and then turn it OFF for 10 seconds. Again turn the ignition ON and check for leaks. 8. Disconnect the negative battery cable. 9. Disconnect the fuel pipes. 10. Install the upper intake manifold. 11. Connect the fuel pipes and the negative battery cable. FUEL INJECTORS: 1. Disengage the fuel meter body electrical connection and the fuel feed and return hoses from the engine fuel pipes. 2. Remove the upper manifold assembly. Fig. Fig. 1: Exploded view of the CSFI fuel meter body assembly 1. Tag and remove the poppet nozzle out of the casting socket. 2. Remove the fuel meter body by releasing the locktabs. Each injector is calibrated. When replacing the fuel injectors, be sure to replace it with the correct injector. 1. Disassemble the lower hold-down plate and nuts. 2. While pulling the poppet nozzle tube downward, push with a small prytool down between the injector terminals and remove the injectors. Fig. Fig. 2: Exploded view of the fuel injector assembly-CSFI systems To install: 1. Lubricate the new injector O-ring seats with engine oil. 2. Install the O-rings on the injector. 3. Install the fuel injector into the fuel meter body injector socket. 4. Install the lower hold-down plate and nuts. Tighten the nuts to 27 inch lbs. (3 Nm). 5. Install the fuel meter body assembly into the intake manifold and tighten the fuel meter bracket retainer bolts to 88 inch. lbs. (10 Nm). CAUTION To reduce the risk of fire or injury ensure that the poppet nozzles are properly seated and locked in their casting sockets 1. Install the fuel meter body into the bracket and lock all the tabs in place. 2. Install the poppet nozzles into the casting sockets. 3. Engage the electrical connections and install new o-ring seals on the fuel return and feed hoses. 4. Install the fuel feed and return hoses and tighten the fuel pipe nuts to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm). 5. Connect the negative battery cable. 6. Turn the ignition ON for 2 seconds and then turn it OFF for 10 seconds. Again turn the ignition ON and check for leaks. 7. Install the manifold plenum.
