As is the case for the majority of the diesel products sold on Tamerx Diesel Products, your part's warranty is active as soon as you install it. In some other cases, warranty activation is contingent upon you sending us your core (i.e., your old part). Tamerx Diesel Products will provide you a return shipping label for parts that have a warranty with a core return condition. When we have received your core return, the part's warranty coverage begins. We reserve the right to void the product warranty if your core is not received within the allotted time, or if it isn't received at all. If the warranty for the diesel part you are purchasing has a core return requirement, it will be clearly noted on the product detail page/item listing.

What is a Core Charge?

A core charge (also called "core deposit") is similar to the deposit you might pay for a can or bottle of soda and is a standard requirement in the auto parts industry. For example, in many states, to promote recycling, you pay a deposit when you purchase a can of soda and receive your deposit back when you return the empty can. Many automotive parts have a core charge, or core price, that works in essentially the same way as a soda can deposit.

30 Day Core Charge Hold

You authorize Tamerx Diesel Products, to hold your credit card for the specified core charge amount and that you agree to return your core with 30 days of receiving the purchased part. When we have received your core return, the hold is released and the core charge payment is canceled.

The customer, or parts buyer, is responsible for any shipping costs associated with core returns unless otherwise specified in the product listing/detail page. Tamerx Diesel Products offers prepaid UPS shipping labels (SKU numbers UPS-CR1 and UPS-CR2) for use in returning your core that are available for purchase on our website during your shopping/order process.

The shipping label you will need to use for the core return is dependent upon what part you are purchasing. UPS-CR1 is good for cores weighing up to 20 pounds. UPS-CR2 is appropriate for shipping cores weighing 21 pounds or more. You must include enough information with the core return that clearly identifies it as a.) a Core Return, and b.) contains enough information we can use to clearly associate the core return with your order. Including a copy of the invoice or packing slip that came with the original shipment, clearly marked "Core Return", is ideal. Alternately, you can include a note marked as "Core Return" that includes your order number, full name and address, and phone number or other contact information. Failure to include this information with your returned core will most likely delay any due core credit being issued and/or delay any applicable warranty activation. Core returns need to be for the exact part purchased and cannot be damaged. Substituting another part in place of the part you have purchased is not acceptable.

All fluids must be drained.

If you have purchased a set or a parts package, you will need to return cores for all components of the set. For example, if you have purchaed a high pressure oil pump with an IPR valve, you will need to return both HPOP and IPR valve cores to receive proper credit. If you have purchased an EGR cooler/EGR valve package, your core return must consist of an EGR cooler core and an EGR valve core, or core credit will not be given.

Core Charges are often mandated by state legislature, and, as such, the actual core charge and taxes on the charge may vary depending on the state in which you buy your part. The Tamerx Diesel Products core charge presented to you online today with your item is representative of the most common core charge.

The Volvo Mack D13, D12, MP7, MP8 DOC Filter (OEM 22058305) is an important part of the diesel exhaust aftertreatment system. The Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) is positioned in the exhaust stream to begin treating pollutants created during combustion and to prepare the exhaust for additional aftertreatment processes.

Its role is especially important because problems at the DOC stage can affect components farther downstream, including the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF).

Why Does the DOC Filter Matter?

  • Reduces harmful exhaust pollutants
    • The DOC helps convert carbon monoxide and unburned hydrocarbons into less harmful compounds.
  • Supports DPF regeneration
    • The catalyst helps create the exhaust conditions needed for soot stored in the DPF to burn away during regeneration.
  • Prepares exhaust for further treatment
    • By treating pollutants early in the aftertreatment process, the DOC helps downstream components operate under appropriate exhaust conditions.
  • Supports proper exhaust temperatures
    • Chemical reactions occurring inside the DOC can increase exhaust temperature, which is important during active regeneration.
  • Works with the complete aftertreatment system
    • The DOC operates alongside the DPF, SCR system, temperature sensors, pressure sensors, and electronic controls.
  • Helps maintain emissions compliance
    • Proper DOC operation contributes to keeping diesel exhaust emissions within the requirements established for the vehicle.

What Happens When the DOC Develops Problems?

A contaminated, damaged, or inefficient DOC may contribute to frequent regeneration, difficulty completing regeneration, increased soot accumulation, emissions-related fault codes, or warning lights. Oil, coolant, excessive fuel, or other contaminants entering the exhaust can also shorten catalyst life.

An Important First Step in Exhaust Treatment

The Volvo Mack DOC Filter (OEM 22058305) is important because it handles an early and essential stage of emissions treatment. Keeping the engine properly maintained and addressing fuel, oil, or coolant problems promptly can help protect the DOC and support dependable operation of the entire aftertreatment system.

Your vehicle may continue to operate with a failing Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) Filter, but driving for an extended period is not recommended. The DOC is an important part of the diesel aftertreatment system, and problems such as clogging, contamination, or internal damage can eventually affect exhaust flow and other emissions components.

A minor DOC problem may initially cause only warning lights, but the condition can become more serious if ignored.

Here are some possible risks of continuing to drive:

  • Increased exhaust backpressure
    • A restricted DOC can make it harder for exhaust gases to flow freely, placing additional strain on the engine and turbocharger.
  • Reduced engine responsiveness
    • As exhaust restriction increases, the vehicle may feel sluggish during acceleration or when operating under heavy loads.
  • Frequent regeneration problems
    • A DOC that isn't functioning correctly can interfere with the temperatures needed for proper DPF regeneration.
  • Check engine or aftertreatment warnings
    • The engine control system may detect abnormal temperatures, pressures, or emissions conditions and store diagnostic trouble codes.
  • Engine derate
    • Serious or persistent aftertreatment faults can cause some diesel engines to enter a reduced-power or speed-limited mode.
  • Damage to other aftertreatment components
    • Ignoring a DOC problem may contribute to DPF restrictions and other exhaust system issues.
  • Unexpected downtime
    • A developing DOC problem can eventually become severe enough that the vehicle requires immediate service.

If the DOC Filter is only showing an early warning and the vehicle otherwise operates normally, a short trip to a repair facility may be possible. However, heavy smoke, severe power loss, excessive exhaust temperatures, or a major restriction are reasons to stop operating the vehicle and have it inspected promptly.

Before replacing the DOC, determine why it failed. Excessive soot, oil or coolant contamination, fuel system problems, and other engine issues can damage a replacement DOC if the underlying cause isn't corrected.

Yes, repeated unsuccessful regenerations can indicate an aftertreatment problem that warrants inspection of the 22058305 along with the DPF and related components.

Yes, dents, cracks, deformation, or impact damage to the 22058305 housing can affect exhaust flow, sealing, or the condition of the internal catalyst.

Accurate temperature sensor readings are important because the aftertreatment system relies on exhaust temperature data to manage conditions involving the 22058305 and downstream components.

Yes, the downstream DPF should be inspected when replacing the 22058305 because problems in either component can affect overall aftertreatment operation.
