As is the case for the majority of the diesel products sold on Tamerx Diesel Products, your part's warranty is active as soon as you install it. In some other cases, warranty activation is contingent upon you sending us your core (i.e., your old part). Tamerx Diesel Products will provide you a return shipping label for parts that have a warranty with a core return condition. When we have received your core return, the part's warranty coverage begins. We reserve the right to void the product warranty if your core is not received within the allotted time, or if it isn't received at all. If the warranty for the diesel part you are purchasing has a core return requirement, it will be clearly noted on the product detail page/item listing.
What is a Core Charge?
A core charge (also called "core deposit") is similar to the deposit you might pay for a can or bottle of soda and is a standard requirement in the auto parts industry. For example, in many states, to promote recycling, you pay a deposit when you purchase a can of soda and receive your deposit back when you return the empty can. Many automotive parts have a core charge, or core price, that works in essentially the same way as a soda can deposit.
30 Day Core Charge Hold
You authorize Tamerx Diesel Products, to hold your credit card for the specified core charge amount and that you agree to return your core with 30 days of receiving the purchased part. When we have received your core return, the hold is released and the core charge payment is canceled.

The Sensor GP-TE used on Caterpillar C15 and 3406 engines plays a critical role in monitoring engine temperature. This sensor provides essential data that allows the engine control system to regulate engine function, protect internal components, and maintain safe operating conditions. Even though it’s a small part, the engine relies heavily on the accuracy of the information it provides.
What This Sensor Does
The Sensor GP-TE measures the temperature of the engine’s coolant or metal surface (depending on the installation location). It then sends that data to the engine control unit, which uses the information to adjust fuel delivery, cooling system behavior, and engine timing. By keeping the engine’s temperature within its intended range, the sensor helps maintain smooth and reliable operation.
Why the Sensor Matters
- Prevents overheating by triggering cooling system responses
- Protects internal components from extreme thermal conditions
- Ensures stable idle and combustion through temperature-based adjustments
- Supports fuel control decisions that depend on accurate temperature readings
- Triggers warnings if temperatures rise beyond safe limits
The Caterpillar Sensor GP-TE (OEM 2566453) is essential for safeguarding the C15 and 3406 engines. Without accurate temperature monitoring, the engine cannot properly regulate its cooling system, combustion process, or protective strategies. A failed sensor can lead to overheating, reduced efficiency, or major engine damage—making this component vital to long-term engine reliability.
A Sensor GP-TE plays a critical role in monitoring exhaust temperature and providing accurate data to the engine control system. If the sensor begins to fail, it can affect emissions readings, fuel delivery, and overall engine stability. Knowing when to replace it helps you avoid bigger issues down the road.
Most GP-TE sensors are designed to last many miles, but their lifespan can vary depending on driving conditions, heat exposure, and exhaust system wear. Over time, soot buildup, corrosion, or internal electrical faults can cause the sensor to degrade.
Key signs that a Sensor GP-TE should be replaced include:
- Unstable temperature readings in diagnostics
- Check Engine Light tied to exhaust temperature faults
- Delayed regeneration cycles in diesel applications
- Reduced fuel efficiency
- Visible wiring damage or corrosion
If you notice any of these symptoms, a technician should confirm the issue with a diagnostic scan. Consistent incorrect readings or missing temperature data usually indicate the sensor is no longer reliable.
Replacing a failing Sensor GP-TE promptly helps maintain proper exhaust monitoring and prevents unnecessary stress on related emissions components.
It measures engine temperature and relays the data to the ECM or gauge for proper engine management.
Erratic temperature readings, warning lights, or unexpected derates may appear.
It is placed in a coolant passage or housing where it can directly sense engine temperature.
Yes, corroded terminals can distort the electrical signal and cause false temperature readings.
