As is the case for the majority of the diesel products sold on Tamerx Diesel Products, your part's warranty is active as soon as you install it. In some other cases, warranty activation is contingent upon you sending us your core (i.e., your old part). Tamerx Diesel Products will provide you a return shipping label for parts that have a warranty with a core return condition. When we have received your core return, the part's warranty coverage begins. We reserve the right to void the product warranty if your core is not received within the allotted time, or if it isn't received at all. If the warranty for the diesel part you are purchasing has a core return requirement, it will be clearly noted on the product detail page/item listing.
What is a Core Charge?
A core charge (also called "core deposit") is similar to the deposit you might pay for a can or bottle of soda and is a standard requirement in the auto parts industry. For example, in many states, to promote recycling, you pay a deposit when you purchase a can of soda and receive your deposit back when you return the empty can. Many automotive parts have a core charge, or core price, that works in essentially the same way as a soda can deposit.
30 Day Core Charge Hold
You authorize Tamerx Diesel Products, to hold your credit card for the specified core charge amount and that you agree to return your core with 30 days of receiving the purchased part. When we have received your core return, the hold is released and the core charge payment is canceled.

The Cummins X15 Aftertreatment Hose (OEM 4387229) is an important part of the engine's emissions system. Designed for 2014–2021 Cummins X15 engines, this hose helps maintain a secure connection between aftertreatment components, allowing the system to operate efficiently. Although it is built to withstand high temperatures and harsh operating conditions, proper maintenance can significantly extend its service life. The X15 aftertreatment system relies on routine maintenance and inspections to ensure long-term reliability.
Here are some practical ways to help prolong the lifespan of your aftertreatment hose:
- Inspect the hose regularly
- Check for cracks, abrasions, swelling, loose fittings, or signs of wear during routine maintenance. Early detection can prevent unexpected failures.
- Ensure all clamps and connections are secure
- Loose or improperly tightened clamps can lead to leaks, vibration damage, or premature hose deterioration.
- Keep the aftertreatment system clean
- Dirt, oil, and debris around the hose and surrounding components can contribute to premature wear over time.
- Repair exhaust leaks immediately
- Exhaust leaks can expose the hose to excessive heat and pressure, shortening its service life and affecting aftertreatment performance.
- Avoid unnecessary strain on the hose
- Make sure the hose is routed correctly and is not rubbing against sharp edges or moving engine components.
- Monitor engine and aftertreatment warning lights
- Address any emissions-related fault codes promptly to prevent additional stress on the aftertreatment system.
- Replace worn mounting hardware when needed
- Damaged brackets or supports can allow excessive movement, increasing vibration and wear on the hose.
- Follow the recommended maintenance schedule
Routine inspections of the engine and aftertreatment system help identify potential issues before they lead to hose failure.
Why Proper Care Matters
The Cummins X15 Aftertreatment Hose (OEM 4387229) may seem like a simple component, but it plays an important role in maintaining the integrity of the emissions system. By performing regular inspections, keeping the system clean, securing all connections, and addressing minor issues early, you can help maximize the hose's lifespan and support the reliable operation of your Cummins X15 aftertreatment system.
An aftertreatment hose is an important part of your diesel emissions system, helping route exhaust gases or Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) between key aftertreatment components. Over time, exposure to high temperatures, vibration, and harsh operating conditions can cause the hose to deteriorate, leading to reduced system efficiency and emissions-related problems.
Recognizing the warning signs early can help prevent additional damage to your aftertreatment system.
Here are the most common signs of a failing aftertreatment hose:
- Visible cracks or splits
- Heat and age can cause the hose material to crack, split, or become brittle, allowing leaks to develop.
- Loose or damaged connections
- Worn clamps or deteriorated fittings can create leaks and reduce the efficiency of the aftertreatment system.
- Exhaust or DEF leaks
- Depending on the hose application, you may notice escaping exhaust gases or DEF around the hose or its connections.
- Check engine light
- Leaks or restrictions can trigger emissions-related fault codes and illuminate the check engine light.
- Recurring SCR or aftertreatment fault codes
- A damaged hose can affect system pressure or DEF delivery, resulting in repeated diagnostic trouble codes.
- Reduced engine operation or derate
- In some applications, a significant leak or restriction can cause the engine to enter a reduced-power mode to protect the emissions system.
- Signs of heat damage or abrasion
- Discoloration, melted sections, rubbing marks, or worn spots on the hose indicate that it may be nearing the end of its service life.
If you notice any of these symptoms, inspect the aftertreatment hose and the surrounding components as soon as possible. Replacing a damaged hose early can help maintain proper emissions system operation, prevent additional component failures, and reduce costly downtime.
Proper airflow helps the aftertreatment system operate as designed, supporting efficient emissions control and maintaining the performance of connected components.
The hose is constructed from heat-resistant reinforced elastomer materials designed to withstand elevated temperatures, pressure changes, vibration, and continuous heavy-duty operation.
The 4387229 is commonly used on Class 8 highway tractors, vocational trucks, heavy-duty fleet vehicles, and commercial trucks powered by compatible Cummins X15 engines.
The hose is engineered to withstand high underhood temperatures, continuous vibration, pressure fluctuations, road debris, moisture, and repeated thermal cycling encountered during commercial truck operation.
