As is the case for the majority of the diesel products sold on Tamerx, your part's warranty is active as soon as you install it. In some other cases, warranty activation is contingent upon you sending us your core (i.e., your old part). Tamerx will provide you a return shipping label for parts that have a warranty with a core return condition. When we have received your core return, the part's warranty coverage begins. We reserve the right to void the product warranty if your core is not received within the allotted time, or if it isn't received at all. If the warranty for the diesel part you are purchasing has a core return requirement, it will be clearly noted on the product detail page/item listing.
What is a Core Charge?
A core charge (also called "core deposit") is similar to the deposit you might pay for a can or bottle of soda and is a standard requirement in the auto parts industry. For example, in many states, to promote recycling, you pay a deposit when you purchase a can of soda and receive your deposit back when you return the empty can. Many automotive parts have a core charge, or core price, that works in essentially the same way as a soda can deposit.
30 Day Core Charge Hold
You authorize Tamerx Diesel Products, to hold your credit card for the specified core charge amount and that you agree to return your core with 30 days of receiving the purchased part. When we have received your core return, the hold is released and the core charge payment is canceled.
The customer, or parts buyer, is responsible for any shipping costs associated with core returns unless otherwise specified in the product listing/detail page. Tamerx Diesel Products offers prepaid UPS shipping labels (SKU numbers UPS-CR1 and UPS-CR2) for use in returning your core that are available for purchase on our website during your shopping/order process.
The shipping label you will need to use for the core return is dependent upon what part you are purchasing. UPS-CR1 is good for cores weighing up to 20 pounds. UPS-CR2 is appropriate for shipping cores weighing 21 pounds or more. You must include enough information with the core return that clearly identifies it as a.) a Core Return, and b.) contains enough information we can use to clearly associate the core return with your order. Including a copy of the invoice or packing slip that came with the original shipment, clearly marked "Core Return", is ideal. Alternately, you can include a note marked as "Core Return" that includes your order number, full name and address, and phone number or other contact information. Failure to include this information with your returned core will most likely delay any due core credit being issued and/or delay any applicable warranty activation. Core returns need to be for the exact part purchased and cannot be damaged. Substituting another part in place of the part you have purchased is not acceptable.
All fluids must be drained.
If you have purchased a set or a parts package, you will need to return cores for all components of the set. For example, if you have purchaed a high pressure oil pump with an IPR valve, you will need to return both HPOP and IPR valve cores to receive proper credit. If you have purchased an EGR cooler/EGR valve package, your core return must consist of an EGR cooler core and an EGR valve core, or core credit will not be given.
Core Charges are often mandated by state legislature, and, as such, the actual core charge and taxes on the charge may vary depending on the state in which you buy your part. The Tamerx Diesel Products core charge presented to you online today with your item is representative of the most common core charge.

The main function of the Cummins X15 DOC Filter 2024-2027: OEM 5511609 is to reduce harmful carbon monoxide (CO) and unburned hydrocarbon (HC) emissions produced by compatible Cummins X15 diesel engines. As part of the diesel aftertreatment system, the Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) uses chemical reactions to convert these pollutants into less harmful substances.
The DOC filter also plays an important role in supporting the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) by helping generate the exhaust temperatures required for proper soot regeneration.
What Does the DOC Filter Do?
- Reduces carbon monoxide emissions The catalyst converts harmful carbon monoxide into carbon dioxide through oxidation reactions within the exhaust system.
- Oxidizes unburned hydrocarbons It helps break down unburned fuel compounds in the exhaust stream, reducing hydrocarbon emissions before further exhaust treatment.
- Supports DPF regeneration The DOC helps generate the heat needed for the DPF to burn accumulated soot during active regeneration cycles.
- Helps maintain proper exhaust temperatures Oxidation reactions inside the catalyst contribute to the temperature conditions required for downstream aftertreatment processes.
- Works with the Diesel Particulate Filter The DOC treats gaseous pollutants and supports regeneration, while the DPF captures soot and other particulate matter.
- Supports overall aftertreatment operation It works alongside exhaust temperature sensors and electronic controls to maintain the conditions needed for effective emissions treatment.
- Helps maintain emissions compliance Proper oxidation of exhaust pollutants supports the emissions-control requirements established for compatible Cummins X15 applications.
Important for Effective Exhaust Treatment
The Cummins X15 DOC Filter (OEM 5511609) plays an essential role in reducing exhaust pollutants and supporting proper DPF regeneration. If the catalyst becomes contaminated, damaged, restricted, or inefficient, it may contribute to incomplete regeneration, excessive soot accumulation, emissions warning lights, or aftertreatment fault codes.
Following recommended engine maintenance procedures, addressing fuel or oil-related issues promptly, and keeping related aftertreatment components in proper condition can help protect the DOC filter and support dependable exhaust treatment.
A Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) Filter does not have a fixed lifespan or replacement interval. Its service life depends on engine condition, exhaust temperatures, fuel quality, maintenance practices, and operating conditions. A properly maintained DOC Filter can remain functional for several years, but contamination or physical damage may shorten its lifespan.
Here are several factors that can affect the lifespan of your DOC Filter:
- Engine maintenance Regular engine servicing helps prevent excessive soot, oil consumption, and combustion problems that can damage the catalyst.
- Fuel quality Using the correct diesel fuel helps reduce harmful deposits and contamination that may affect the DOC Filter.
- Oil and coolant contamination Engine oil or coolant entering the exhaust system can coat the catalyst material and reduce its effectiveness.
- Exhaust temperature conditions Excessive heat can damage the internal catalyst substrate, while prolonged low-temperature operation may contribute to deposit accumulation.
- Driving and operating habits Frequent short trips, extended idling, and demanding operating conditions can influence catalyst deterioration.
- Regeneration system operation Problems with DPF regeneration can expose the DOC Filter to abnormal exhaust temperatures and additional stress.
- Physical catalyst condition Cracked, melted, broken, or severely contaminated internal material can shorten the filter's usable lifespan.
- Related sensor problems Faulty exhaust temperature sensors or other aftertreatment components can interfere with proper system operation.
- Regular inspections Monitoring exhaust restrictions, fault codes, and catalyst condition can help identify developing problems before serious damage occurs.
A DOC Filter should not be replaced based on mileage alone. If recurring aftertreatment warnings, abnormal exhaust temperatures, or regeneration problems occur, have the system inspected. Proper diagnosis can determine whether the DOC Filter remains serviceable or requires replacement.
Yes, temperatures beyond the intended operating range can cause thermal stress, cracking, or deterioration of the internal catalyst substrate.
Damaged sealing surfaces, cracks, corrosion, or distorted connections can cause exhaust leakage or prevent proper installation of the DOC Filter.
The adjoining DPF, exhaust temperature sensors, mounting hardware, exhaust connections, and possible sources of contamination should be inspected before installation.
OEM 5511609 should be verified using the X15 engine serial number, vehicle model, production year, emissions configuration, and original DOC part number before installation.
