Tamerx Diesel Products provides a replacement warranty on all of our parts. The duration and mileage limitations of the warranty vary by product and are specified on the product's detail page/item listing.

Please note that the warranty covers replacement of the part and the cost of shipping the replacement part to you only. It does not cover any shop, labor, towing, or any similar or related costs. This is not a "money back guarantee".

If you experience a problem with your part or it is not functioning properly, the correct warranty procedure is to call us at (510) 257-1777 (8:00 AM - 5:00 PM ET Monday through Friday). As is the case for the majority of the diesel products sold on Tamerx Diesel Products, your part's warranty is active as soon as you install it. In some other cases, warranty activation is contingent upon you sending us your core (i.e., your old part). Tamerx Diesel Products will provide you a return shipping label for parts that have a warranty with a core return condition. When we have received your core return, the part's warranty coverage begins. We reserve the right to void the product warranty if your core is not received within the allotted time, or if it isn't received at all. If the warranty for the diesel part you are purchasing has a core return requirement, it will be clearly noted on the product detail page/item listing.

What is a Core Charge?

A core charge (also called "core deposit") is similar to the deposit you might pay for a can or bottle of soda and is a standard requirement in the auto parts industry. For example, in many states, to promote recycling, you pay a deposit when you purchase a can of soda and receive your deposit back when you return the empty can. Many automotive parts have a core charge, or core price, that works in essentially the same way as a soda can deposit.

30 Day Core Charge Hold

You authorize Tamerx Diesel Products, to hold your credit card for the specified core charge amount and that you agree to return your core with 30 days of receiving the purchased part. When we have received your core return, the hold is released and the core charge payment is canceled.

Modern Caterpillar engines depend on precise DEF dosing to meet emissions standards and maintain aftertreatment system health. The OEM 6540-71-1110 doser injector delivers reliable performance under those requirements, ensuring your DEF fluid is injected at the right time and in the right quantity to keep your SCR working efficiently and prevent issues down the line.

  • Provides accurate DEF injection into the exhaust stream, helping the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system convert NOx efficiently and keep emissions clean.

  • Helps avoid common problems like SCR derate, warning lights, or engine power reduction that stem from under- or over-dosing of DEF.

  • Designed to match Caterpillar specifications for models from 2018-2024, ensuring the right fit, correct spray pattern, and dependable electronic control.

  • Durable design and backed by a strong warranty (one year or one million miles) give added peace of mind for long service intervals.

  • Easy to replace doser injector saves you downtime and protects downstream parts from premature wear or damage due to dosing inaccuracies.

Installing the OEM 6540-71-1110 DEF doser injector is a critical investment in maintaining your engine’s emissions compliance and long-term health. With this genuine part, you help ensure your Caterpillar runs clean, responsively, and reliably.

The Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) doser injector is a critical part of the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system in modern diesel engines. It injects precise amounts of DEF into the exhaust stream to reduce harmful nitrogen oxide emissions. When this injector malfunctions, it can compromise emissions control, trigger warning lights, and even impact engine functionality. But does a faulty DEF doser injector mean you have to stop driving immediately?

What Happens When You Drive with a Faulty DEF Doser Injector?

  • Check Engine or DEF Warning Light
A malfunctioning doser injector will often trigger dashboard alerts, including the check engine or DEF system light, indicating the system is not performing within emission standards.

  • Reduced Power or Derate Mode
Many diesel vehicles enter a “derate” mode when SCR components fail. This limits engine power or speed to prevent further damage and reduce emissions.

  • Failed Emissions Test
A non-functioning DEF injector can lead to excessive NOx emissions, resulting in a failed inspection or emissions compliance issue, especially for commercial fleets.

  • Poor DEF Atomization
A clogged or faulty injector may not spray DEF properly, affecting its ability to neutralize pollutants effectively and leading to increased exhaust buildup.

  • Potential Fines for Non-Compliance
In some jurisdictions, continued operation with a known emissions fault could result in penalties or fines if the vehicle is inspected.

While you may still be able to operate the vehicle with a faulty DEF doser injector for a short distance, doing so is risky and likely to result in reduced power, emissions violations, or long-term damage. It’s essential to address the issue promptly by diagnosing the fault and replacing or cleaning the injector as neede

Allow the exhaust system to cool and relieve system pressure to prevent exposure to hot surfaces or pressurized DEF.

Engine may experience poor emission readings, less accurate regenerations, and reduced SCR effectiveness.

Persistent malfunction may damage SCR catalyst, NOx sensors, or lead to costly emission system repairs.

Hissing or dripping near the injector tip or inconsistent dosing during diagnostics may reveal issues.
