As is the case for the majority of the diesel products sold on Tamerx, your part's warranty is active as soon as you install it. In some other cases, warranty activation is contingent upon you sending us your core (i.e., your old part). Tamerx will provide you a return shipping label for parts that have a warranty with a core return condition. When we have received your core return, the part's warranty coverage begins. We reserve the right to void the product warranty if your core is not received within the allotted time, or if it isn't received at all. If the warranty for the diesel part you are purchasing has a core return requirement, it will be clearly noted on the product detail page/item listing.

What is a Core Charge?

A core charge (also called "core deposit") is similar to the deposit you might pay for a can or bottle of soda and is a standard requirement in the auto parts industry. For example, in many states, to promote recycling, you pay a deposit when you purchase a can of soda and receive your deposit back when you return the empty can. Many automotive parts have a core charge, or core price, that works in essentially the same way as a soda can deposit.

30 Day Core Charge Hold

You authorize Tamerx Diesel Products, to hold your credit card for the specified core charge amount and that you agree to return your core with 30 days of receiving the purchased part. When we have received your core return, the hold is released and the core charge payment is canceled.

The customer, or parts buyer, is responsible for any shipping costs associated with core returns unless otherwise specified in the product listing/detail page. Tamerx Diesel Products offers prepaid UPS shipping labels (SKU numbers UPS-CR1 and UPS-CR2) for use in returning your core that are available for purchase on our website during your shopping/order process.

The shipping label you will need to use for the core return is dependent upon what part you are purchasing. UPS-CR1 is good for cores weighing up to 20 pounds. UPS-CR2 is appropriate for shipping cores weighing 21 pounds or more. You must include enough information with the core return that clearly identifies it as a.) a Core Return, and b.) contains enough information we can use to clearly associate the core return with your order. Including a copy of the invoice or packing slip that came with the original shipment, clearly marked "Core Return", is ideal. Alternately, you can include a note marked as "Core Return" that includes your order number, full name and address, and phone number or other contact information. Failure to include this information with your returned core will most likely delay any due core credit being issued and/or delay any applicable warranty activation. Core returns need to be for the exact part purchased and cannot be damaged. Substituting another part in place of the part you have purchased is not acceptable.

All fluids must be drained.

If you have purchased a set or a parts package, you will need to return cores for all components of the set. For example, if you have purchaed a high pressure oil pump with an IPR valve, you will need to return both HPOP and IPR valve cores to receive proper credit. If you have purchased an EGR cooler/EGR valve package, your core return must consist of an EGR cooler core and an EGR valve core, or core credit will not be given.

Core Charges are often mandated by state legislature, and, as such, the actual core charge and taxes on the charge may vary depending on the state in which you buy your part. The Tamerx Diesel Products core charge presented to you online today with your item is representative of the most common core charge.

The Cummins X15 DPF Filter 2024-2027: OEM 5513195 is important because it helps capture and reduce harmful particulate matter (PM) and soot emissions produced by compatible Cummins X15 diesel engines. As part of the diesel aftertreatment system, the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) traps soot particles before they can be released into the atmosphere.

Without a properly functioning DPF filter, soot may accumulate excessively within the exhaust system, potentially causing increased exhaust backpressure, incomplete regeneration, emissions warning lights, or operating restrictions.

Why Is the DPF Filter Important?

  • Captures harmful soot particles The DPF traps particulate matter produced during diesel combustion, preventing much of it from being released through the exhaust.
  • Reduces particulate emissions It helps limit the amount of harmful diesel soot entering the atmosphere, supporting cleaner exhaust emissions.
  • Supports the regeneration process The filter allows accumulated soot to be burned off during regeneration, helping maintain proper exhaust flow.
  • Helps control exhaust backpressure A properly maintained DPF allows exhaust gases to pass through while capturing soot, helping prevent excessive restrictions.
  • Works with the DOC filter The Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) helps establish suitable exhaust conditions for DPF regeneration and further exhaust treatment.
  • Supports aftertreatment system operation The DPF works alongside temperature sensors, pressure sensors, and electronic controls to help monitor soot accumulation and regeneration requirements.
  • Helps maintain emissions compliance Effective particulate filtration supports the emissions-control requirements established for compatible Cummins X15 applications.

Essential for Proper Particulate Filtration

The Cummins X15 DPF Filter (OEM 5513195) plays a critical role in controlling soot emissions and maintaining proper exhaust treatment. If the filter becomes clogged, cracked, damaged, or excessively loaded with ash, it may contribute to increased exhaust backpressure, frequent regeneration cycles, emissions warning lights, or operating restrictions.

Following recommended maintenance intervals, addressing regeneration problems promptly, and maintaining related engine and aftertreatment components can help extend the DPF filter's service life and support reliable operation.

A Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) does not have a fixed replacement interval. Its lifespan depends on engine condition, driving habits, regeneration cycles, maintenance practices, and the amount of soot and ash accumulated inside the filter. Replacement is generally necessary when the DPF becomes severely damaged or can no longer function correctly after appropriate servicing.

Here are several factors that can help determine when your DPF Filter needs replacement:

  • Excessive ash accumulation Ash gradually collects inside the DPF and cannot be removed through normal regeneration. Professional cleaning may be required before replacement is considered.
  • Frequent regeneration problems Repeated or unsuccessful regeneration cycles may indicate excessive soot accumulation, exhaust restrictions, or other aftertreatment problems.
  • Persistent DPF fault codes Recurring diagnostic trouble codes after proper inspection and servicing may indicate that the filter requires further evaluation.
  • Excessive exhaust backpressure A severely restricted DPF can interfere with exhaust flow. If approved cleaning cannot restore acceptable flow, replacement may be necessary.
  • Physical damage to the filter Cracked, melted, broken, or severely damaged internal filter material generally requires replacement.
  • Repeated engine derate Persistent DPF restrictions or aftertreatment faults may cause the engine control system to limit vehicle operation.
  • Oil or coolant contamination Engine oil or coolant entering the exhaust system can contaminate the DPF and potentially cause permanent damage.
  • Failed professional cleaning If the DPF remains excessively restricted or damaged after appropriate cleaning, replacement may be the most suitable solution.
  • Manufacturer maintenance recommendations Follow the engine manufacturer's inspection and cleaning intervals, especially for vehicles operating under demanding conditions.

A DPF Filter should not automatically be replaced because it has reached a certain mileage. Regular inspections, proper regeneration, and professional cleaning can help extend its service life. Before replacing the filter, identify and correct any underlying problems involving fuel injectors, sensors, excessive soot production, or engine oil consumption to prevent premature failure of the replacement.

Frequent regeneration requests, elevated exhaust backpressure, DPF warning messages, or related diagnostic codes can indicate that the 5513195 requires inspection.

A faulty differential pressure sensor or restricted sensing tube can produce inaccurate readings that may incorrectly indicate excessive restriction in the 5513195.

Yes, repeated unsuccessful regeneration cycles can allow soot to accumulate beyond normal operating levels and increase restriction within the filter.

The housing should be checked for cracks, dents, damaged connections, corrosion, and mounting damage that could interfere with proper installation or operation.
