As is the case for the majority of the diesel products sold on Tamerx Diesel Products, your part's warranty is active as soon as you install it. In some other cases, warranty activation is contingent upon you sending us your core (i.e., your old part). Tamerx Diesel Products will provide you a return shipping label for parts that have a warranty with a core return condition. When we have received your core return, the part's warranty coverage begins. We reserve the right to void the product warranty if your core is not received within the allotted time, or if it isn't received at all. If the warranty for the diesel part you are purchasing has a core return requirement, it will be clearly noted on the product detail page/item listing.

What is a Core Charge?

A core charge (also called "core deposit") is similar to the deposit you might pay for a can or bottle of soda and is a standard requirement in the auto parts industry. For example, in many states, to promote recycling, you pay a deposit when you purchase a can of soda and receive your deposit back when you return the empty can. Many automotive parts have a core charge, or core price, that works in essentially the same way as a soda can deposit.

30 Day Core Charge Hold

You authorize Tamerx Diesel Products, to hold your credit card for the specified core charge amount and that you agree to return your core with 30 days of receiving the purchased part. When we have received your core return, the hold is released and the core charge payment is canceled.

The customer, or parts buyer, is responsible for any shipping costs associated with core returns unless otherwise specified in the product listing/detail page. Tamerx Diesel Products offers prepaid UPS shipping labels (SKU numbers UPS-CR1 and UPS-CR2) for use in returning your core that are available for purchase on our website during your shopping/order process.

The shipping label you will need to use for the core return is dependent upon what part you are purchasing. UPS-CR1 is good for cores weighing up to 20 pounds. UPS-CR2 is appropriate for shipping cores weighing 21 pounds or more. You must include enough information with the core return that clearly identifies it as a.) a Core Return, and b.) contains enough information we can use to clearly associate the core return with your order. Including a copy of the invoice or packing slip that came with the original shipment, clearly marked "Core Return", is ideal. Alternately, you can include a note marked as "Core Return" that includes your order number, full name and address, and phone number or other contact information. Failure to include this information with your returned core will most likely delay any due core credit being issued and/or delay any applicable warranty activation. Core returns need to be for the exact part purchased and cannot be damaged. Substituting another part in place of the part you have purchased is not acceptable.

All fluids must be drained.

If you have purchased a set or a parts package, you will need to return cores for all components of the set. For example, if you have purchaed a high pressure oil pump with an IPR valve, you will need to return both HPOP and IPR valve cores to receive proper credit. If you have purchased an EGR cooler/EGR valve package, your core return must consist of an EGR cooler core and an EGR valve core, or core credit will not be given.

Core Charges are often mandated by state legislature, and, as such, the actual core charge and taxes on the charge may vary depending on the state in which you buy your part. The Tamerx Diesel Products core charge presented to you online today with your item is representative of the most common core charge.

Yes. The Cummins ISB 6.7L SCR Outlet Catalyst Module (OEM 4354223) is a significant part of the engine’s exhaust aftertreatment system. Cummins documentation identifies 4354223 as an SCR catalyst that superseded the earlier OEM 2871604, following a change to the catalyst washcoat.

While the catalyst does not directly create engine power, its proper operation is important for controlling emissions and preventing aftertreatment problems that can interfere with normal vehicle operation.

Why Is OEM 4354223 Important?

  • Reduces harmful NOx emissions
    • The SCR catalyst provides the surface where nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions react with ammonia derived from Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF), producing primarily nitrogen and water.
  • Supports the DEF system
    • Proper DEF dosing and catalyst operation work together to achieve the required level of NOx reduction.
  • Completes an important emissions-control stage
    • The SCR catalyst handles NOx reduction after upstream aftertreatment components have performed their respective exhaust-cleaning functions.
  • Works with aftertreatment sensors
    • NOx and temperature sensors allow the engine control system to monitor SCR operation and identify conditions that may indicate poor catalyst efficiency.
  • Helps maintain emissions compliance
    • Cummins treats the SCR catalyst as a major component of the complete aftertreatment system. (
  • Can affect normal vehicle operation when problems develop
    • An SCR system that cannot achieve the expected NOx conversion can generate fault codes and emissions warnings. Depending on the fault and its duration, an engine derate may eventually occur.

A failed catalyst may cause SCR efficiency faults, warning lights, increased tailpipe NOx, or emissions-related derates. However, these symptoms do not automatically mean OEM 4354223 itself needs replacement. Problems with DEF quality or dosing, NOx sensors, exhaust leaks, temperature sensors, or other aftertreatment components can produce similar symptoms.

The Cummins ISB 6.7L SCR Outlet Catalyst Module (OEM 4354223) is significant because it helps complete the engine’s NOx emissions-control process. Keeping the SCR and surrounding aftertreatment components working correctly helps maintain cleaner exhaust, proper emissions performance, and dependable operation of your Cummins ISB 6.7L engine.

An SCR Outlet Catalyst Module is designed for long-term use, so repeated or premature failure often indicates a problem elsewhere in the engine or aftertreatment system. Excessive heat, contamination, incorrect DEF dosing, and poor exhaust conditions can all accelerate deterioration.

Here are some of the most common factors that can shorten its lifespan:

  • Poor-quality or contaminated DEF
    • DEF mixed with water, fuel, dirt, or other contaminants can interfere with the SCR process and contribute to harmful deposits.
  • Incorrect DEF dosing
    • A faulty DEF injector or dosing system may inject too much or too little fluid. Overdosing can contribute to crystallization and deposits, while underdosing can reduce NOx conversion efficiency.
  • Excessive exhaust temperatures
    • Repeated exposure to temperatures beyond the catalyst's intended range can cause thermal deterioration and, in severe cases, crack or melt the substrate.
  • Oil or coolant entering the exhaust
    • Turbocharger problems, excessive oil consumption, or internal engine leaks can introduce contaminants that coat or chemically damage the catalyst.
  • Excessive soot production
    • Fuel injector, EGR, turbocharger, or combustion problems can produce abnormal amounts of soot and place additional stress on the entire aftertreatment system.
  • Frequent short trips and excessive idling
    • Operating conditions that prevent the exhaust from consistently reaching appropriate temperatures can encourage deposits and reduce aftertreatment efficiency.
  • Exhaust leaks
    • Leaks upstream of the catalyst can alter exhaust conditions and sensor readings, potentially causing the SCR system to operate incorrectly.
  • Physical damage and vibration
    • Loose brackets, damaged mounts, road impacts, and excessive vibration can crack the housing or internal catalyst substrate.
  • Ignoring related fault codes
    • Continuing to operate with NOx sensor, temperature sensor, DEF dosing, or other aftertreatment faults can allow conditions that damage the catalyst to persist.

If you're experiencing unusually fast SCR Outlet Catalyst Module wear, don't replace the module alone. The engine, DEF dosing system, NOx and temperature sensors, exhaust system, and upstream aftertreatment components should be diagnosed to identify the root cause. Otherwise, the replacement catalyst may experience the same premature failure.

The washcoat provides the active catalytic surface that enables the 4354223 to support the chemical reactions required for SCR emissions treatment.

Yes, the catalytic material inside 4354223 can deteriorate from contamination or excessive heat even when the exterior housing still appears intact.

Yes, severe heat discoloration on the 4354223 can indicate exposure to abnormal exhaust temperatures that may have affected the internal catalyst.

Yes, a bent, cracked, or distorted connection on the 4354223 can prevent correct alignment and sealing within the exhaust assembly.
